Affordable Air Comfort – This cooler works well for what it’s worth. I put ice tap water in and sleep next to it – it’s makes me feel way cooler on these warm spring nights.

Mini swamp cooler – I was asked to give this mini swamp cooler a try. It’s actually pretty cool. I’m using next to my bed and It’s definitely blowing a nice cool breeze without the feeling of a fan blowing on me. The water tank is a little small but it should last the night.

Disappointed – After pre-soaking the wet curtain in ice water as recommended, it will only cool briefly. The water tank reservoir (also chilled) doesn’t seem to effectively keep the wet curtain replenished.

Evaporative cooling works great and it’s very well made – Several years ago I bought a model exactly like this one: https://www.amazon.com/Homeleader-Personal-Conditioner-Portable-Outdoor/dp/B09V54K5Y3/. It has a little plastic float inside that controls the release of water from the tank. The evaporative pleated pad was cotton “paper” similar to coffee paper material that wicked up the water. It was a pain to remove and properly seat back into the unit. The float thing no longer works and it leaks. I research for DAYS and then I found this Afloia unit. The evaporative pad is self-contained in a removable box with a pull-tab on the top. You can also purchase replacements. So easy to remove and clean. (You can clean it with a solution of water and hydrogen peroxide to kill bacteria.) It wicks up water quickly. When the fan blows across the wet “water curtain”, it creates a cooling effect, just like a swamp cooler. When people buy other units that only have a fan and a water receptacle, it will not matter how make ice cubes you pack into it, if it doesn’t have an evaporative pad to wick up the water, it will not cool. That’s why those units get such horrible reviews. The Afloia unit actually cools. It’s very sturdy and well made. The directional grill adjusts with a knob on the side of the unit. Super slick design. This is a cooler for a personal space, not an entire room. I have it in my home office on a tall stand behind me, about 4-5′ away from my head and it feels great. I don’t have to turn the Afloia off when I’m on the phone. The fan has noise to it, but it’s not annoying or high pitched like that other unit I had. There is no auto-shutoff when the water runs out because you can use it as a little fan without water. There is no timer. I knew exactly what I was buying when I ordered it, but I was surprised by then engineering and sleek design. I’m completely satisfied with this purchase. I would absolutely recommend it and no, I was not asked to review it. I bought it on my own and wanted to pass on my experience to others.

Amazingly Surprised – To be honest, I thought this was going to be another gimmick that was more like a fan than anything else. Wow! I was wrong! This little thing was amazing. I’m not sure of the technology or sorcery behind it, but with just plain water (no ice), this thing really cools you off. I recently moved to Germany and the unusual heat wave Europe is experiencing this year has people scrambling for ways to cool off. I’m from Florida and air conditioning is a way of life, but in Germany you will be hard pressed to find A/C in a residence (unless previously inhabited by an American. I am truly shocked that this was as efficient as it was. Granted, the water tank will only last about 3 hours on high or 4 hours on low, I just keep a Brita pitcher on the night handy to refill. It will continue to work without water, but is more of a fan at that point.
