Not quite as good as I’d hoped, but it works. – I’d previously purchased a similar Black & Decker 10k BTU unit for a different room. This 12K BTU Shinco doesn’t seem to be quite as effective. Oddly, it sometimes seems to do a better job of cooling if you set it to dehumidifier mode (a nice feature the B&D lacks) rather than A/C mode. The included window kit wasn’t quite long enough for my windows (the B&D just fit), but fortunately I had a spare SIKADEER window kit that fit both the window and the Shinco hose.

A backup definitely worth the investment. – Admittedly we have central air but have been experiencing a number of issues so often, we bought this as a backup. So I cannot speak to long term efficiency. But when my AC died again recently, it came in handy!

Excellent Performer – Provides an excellent cooling experience for my 430 sq. ft bedroom. The unit has been in use now for 3 months. Consumes about 1230 watts at full power. Generally requires 2 4-gallon bucket empties per day when in heavy use. I bought the 4-year product warranty for about $40 dollars. I’m assuming that only a $10 / year warranty may indicate a low failure rate. The only drawback, a longer exhaust hose would have made for more optimal placement of the unit. I wish there had been a 6′ hose option. Also, an option to better insulate the hose would be helpful, The exhaust hose gets quite warm and adds heat to the area to be cooled.

While some have complained about excessive condensate buildup, that has not been the case here. This perhaps has much to do with the ambient humidity in the PNW being lower than say the SE where some reviewers have had issues.

Very good air conditioner… – I would give it 5 stars the only thing is it came damaged, one of the wheels was smashed. How do you replace the wheel? So it now sits off, I don’t know how to get a new one, so check the bottom of the box when you get the product!
